Background
At the 2024 and 2025 ratepayers’ meetings, the City of Lloydminster’s request for a financial contribution of $1,500,000.00 from the RM of Britannia toward the Cenovus Energy Hub was discussed. During discussions at the ratepayers’ meetings, those in attendance generally expressed opposition to providing funding for this facility. However, council would like to gather input from all ratepayers before considering this matter further.
The Hillmond Redden Arena is owned by the RM of Britannia and operated by the Hillmond Central Sports Society under a property management agreement. The Hillmond Central Sports Society is responsible for maintenance and upkeep and has historically funded improvements through fundraising and grants. Some ratepayers and members of Council have noted that, if municipal funds are to be budgeted for arena purposes, they may prefer such funding to support the arena located within the municipality.
